UA - Universidade de Aveiro

The University of Aveiro (UA) is a public foundation under private law. It was established in 1973 and quickly became one of the most dynamic and innovative Portuguese universities.

Within the scenario of the Portuguese universities, it stands out due to the quality of its infrastructures, the excellence in research and the merit of the teaching staff, as well as the knowledge transfer to society.

The UA’s mission is not only to generate knowledge, but also to and expand access to knowledge for the benefit of individuals and society through research, education and cooperation; to undertake a project of the global development of the individual; to be an active partner in the construction of a European research and education area, and to promote a model of regional development based on innovation, and scientific and technological knowledge.

UA has 15 departments, 1 autonomous section and 4 polytechnic schools. Currently, UA has 18 research units that join researchers from the various departments and polytechnic schools within UA.

Among the many excellent research areas, Materials Science and Engineering, Environmental and Marine Sciences, Electronics and Telecommunications, Natural and Agro-Food Products, and Education stand out in particular, being the sustainability a cross-cutting theme to the developed research in those areas.
